Glenn E. "Mickey" Hohnerlein

Devoted, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle
Glenn E. “Mickey” Hohnerlein, 70, was taken to heaven by the angels on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Mickey was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia to the parents of Mr. and Mrs. Otto G. Hohnerlein, Sr. Mickey was a devoted husband to Mary for 35 years, a loving father to Glenn (Stephanie), Sammy (Susie), Russell (Katrina), Sarah (Joe) and Ilene. A wonderful sibling to Herman, John, Dennis, Augusta, Carol and Cindy, wonderful grandfather to Abby, Kelsey, Lillie, Archer, Zoie, Kade and Hunter and a wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly and they all loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Otto G. Jr., sisters-in-law, Nancy and Faye and brother-in-law, Russell Doughty.
Mickey graduated from Benedictine Class of 1962, and then attended Armstrong State College. He later graduated from Armstrong with a Bachelor’s in Biology and Marine Science. He enlisted in the Army for three years as a medic in the Vietnam War helping others. He worked at Oatland Island under a grant from the Science Museum and briefly taught at Armstrong. He also worked for S.G.S. Control Services, then to Diamond Powers International as a Field Service Engineer where he retired April 1, 2007. After retiring, he spent many years volunteering at Heard Elementary School and enjoyed fishing with his family. Mickey was a fourth degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council No. 5588. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 184 in Thunderbolt.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 16, 2015 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor P. James Costigan, Celebrant and Father Patrick O’Brien, Concelebrant.
Pallbearers will be his special nephews and honorary pallbearers will be the Benedictine Class of 1962.
Interment will be private.

To the entire Hohnerlein family- Mr. Mickey was truly a wonderful man!!! Every time he came to work at Heard, he always had a smile and a kind word to everyone he saw. I don't think I have ever met a more genuine, gentle soul. While we are incredibly sad at his passing, Heaven is rejoicing to have him come home. He will always be loved and remembered!
